Jan Aushadhi vs the brands you buy

Same salt.
A fraction of the price.

Compare government Jan Aushadhi generics with Minimalist, The Derma Co, Cipla, Glenmark and other brands. We compare by price per 100 ml, link every price to its source, and show the Kendras near you.

2,439 products on the official list 20,675 Kendras mapped – median saving on exact matches

Cheap medicine exists. Finding it is the hard part.

Jan Aushadhi sells 2,439 products at a fraction of brand prices, but four things stop people from switching. SameSalt is built around each one.

“What do they even sell?”

The official list is a 2,439-row spreadsheet

It's sorted by drug code, searchable only by the exact generic name, with no photos and no way to browse by problem. Searching “acne” finds nothing.

Browse by concern or by the brand you already use, then see the Jan Aushadhi swap with a picture.
“Is it really the same thing?”

Brand names hide the salt

“Saslic DS”, “Salicylic Acid + LHA Cleanser” and “2% Salicylic Gel Face Wash” are the same active ingredient in 60, 100 and 110 ml packs. Working out the real saving takes a calculator.

Every comparison is matched by salt and strength, labelled Same, Close or Similar, and priced per 100 ml.
“Which store has it?”

Stock is a lottery

One Reddit user visited 12+ Kendras to find the face wash. The official locator matches one exact pincode or lists a whole district as a table, with nothing ranked by how close it is.

Type a pincode and get the nearest of 20,675 Kendras with directions. Copy the drug code so the pharmacist can find it fast.
“Is cheap safe?”

Trust is the real barrier

Doctors raise doubts, buyers worry about fakes, and some Kendras sell private brands next to the real thing.

Lab results, peer-reviewed studies and real Reddit threads, critical ones included, plus a counter checklist.

Cheap, but is it tested?

What independent labs, peer-reviewed studies and the government have found, good and bad. Summaries in our words, with links to every source.

None of these tests cover Jan Aushadhi skincare yet. They test medicines and supplements. For skincare, the salt and strength printed on the pack are what you can check.

How SameSalt works

What we compare, where the numbers come from, and what we can't tell you yet.

What “same salt” means

  • Same salt Same active ingredient at the same strength.
  • Close Same active ingredient, but a different strength or format, such as a wash-off instead of a leave-on.
  • Similar use Different formula for the same job. Compare the labels before you switch.

Where prices come from

Jan Aushadhi prices are the official MRPs from janaushadhi.gov.in. Brand prices are listed MRPs from the brand's own store or a large pharmacy (PharmEasy, Truemeds, Apollo, BigBasket), checked on 26 Oct 2026. Every brand price links to its source. Sale prices change daily, so we compare MRP to MRP.

Is the Jan Aushadhi product genuine?

  • The pack shows the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana logo and a PMBI drug code.
  • That drug code and MRP match the official list in the catalogue above.
  • The store has a Kendra code (PMBJK…) that you can find on the official locator.
  • You pay no more than the printed MRP. Complaints: 1800-180-8080.
  • Many Kendras also stock private brands. Ask for the Jan Aushadhi pack by drug code, and ask for a bill (tips from Reddit).

What we don't know yet

The government doesn't publish live stock for each Kendra, so “listed” doesn't guarantee a store has it today. Reddit users confirm that stock varies from store to store. We don't write reviews. For each product we summarise real Reddit threads and press coverage, critical ones included, and link to the originals.

How we make money

Some “View” links to brand stores may become affiliate links, and we show one clearly labelled ad slot. Neither changes a comparison: options are always ordered by price per unit, and savings are worked out the same way for every brand.

Not medical advice

Products marked Rx are prescription medicines. Talk to a doctor or pharmacist before you start, stop or switch any medicine, including skincare actives like adapalene or minoxidil.
